With the barrels successfully repaired we could fit the dry liners and the valve seats (it’s a side valve engine) and assembly machine the valve seats in-situ.
We then (after painting) fitted the barrels to the crankcase, fitted the pistons & assembled the valvetrain. We had to have new cam followers (inc. rollers) made, and they arrived just in time! Shown below are 2 of the old followers on the left and on the right, 1 (of 8) complete new follower assemblies.
We also had a pair of new head gaskets made, and annealed (c/o the Bluebell Railway). With all these bits fitted, it was starting to look like an engine again – see below.
